The town of tubby Bay is the major population center of the District Council of tubby Bay, and the center of an agricultural district farming cereal crops and sheep, as healthy as having established fishing and tourism industries. This provided a much needed outlet for the copper ore which was future from the Burrowing Mine. The town's beginning school was opened in 1881 as 'tubby', and the district's first hospital opened in 1913. The coast is predominantly white, sandy beaches, on which the town itself is situated, as well as towering cliffs to the south. Like much of coastal South Australia, tubby Bay experiences a Mediterranean climate with warm to warm summers and moderately wet winters. As with many towns on the Eyre Peninsula, tubby Bay also has a well established professional fishing industry. 10 Fishing can be enjoyed from the town jetty, the surrounding beach and rock areas, as healthy as from a boat, which allows access to the Sir Joseph Banks Group. The town has a caravan park and a number of hotels and apartments offering tourist accommodation. The township affords easy access to a variety of facilities and shops. The ecological communities on and around the pylons supporting the tubby Bay jetty make for an interesting and easy shore dive. In his forty years of pharmacy at tubby Bay Ross would handle many innovations and improvements in the provision of medicine to the community. The weekly boat trip with ingredients to be weighed mixed and packaged evolved into a daily road service from Adelaide with fully packaged capsules, and tablets, ready made mixtures. From the early eighties' dispensary supplies could be ordered electronically and delivered the after day. Peters interest in computers led him to write the first retail software program for the pharmacy. This lasted through until 1995 (with a couple of rewrites and lots of little fixes) when a commercial program was purchased. A couple of years later Peter Jackie bought the premises across the road (previously Garth Shoe Store) and after extensive renovations moved the business to its stylish address at 10 North Terrace.
